yes, if it's by their choice.

And how are we to define what actions or states of being are deemed to be "unhealthy" such that they shouldn't receive tax payer assistance with healthcare?

not so much that they shouldn't receive tax payer assistance but that there should be additional taxes to offset their burden on the system - tobacco taxes are an example of this though i'd prefer that any additional taxes on cigarettes went directly towards covering the healthcare costs of smokers

In that example you're, in a way, taxing the cigarette itself. What would we be taxing in relation to fatness though?

In regards to the obesity issue I personally prefer the idea of positive reinforcement through a tax incentive program. You would have to have a physical where they measure your bmi, cholesterol and body fat and based on your levels you could get tax credit/break. It would be required every year to get the benefit. I think it would be a lot better to do it that way since I don't see how you could even logistically figure out who's overweight or not and tax them additionally.

The way you could treat it similarly to cigarettes is you'd have added taxes to "junk" food. I'm personally opposed to that idea.

i'd like to say junkfood but i'd expect this would affect the poor disproportionately which makes it a bit complicated

I don't give a shit about fat people, their life is theirs to live. I just don't want to end up paying for their medical bills when they choose to do nothing to work on their health. I used to be fat, its really not that hard to get fit, barring REAL medical problems. Another issue is the U.S. society pushes people to quick easy out of the box meals which are terrible for your body. Take some time to source good ingredients and cook. Back in the day a loaf of bread was golden, and being a baker was super prestigious from what I gather.... Now you can just buy a bag of bread with all sorts of shitty ingredients in it for dirt cheap. My 2 cents

Hah, the classic "if it's easy for me it's easy for everyone" fallacy. You immediately lose all credibility with that, even though you thought you'd gain credibility from mentioning your past obesity. :)

Overweight people objectively "suffer" from overconsuming. That it is gluttony is a subjective judgment.

Even this is not correct. There are plenty of overweight people who do not overconsume.

You're right about most of them though. Just, "most" is not enough to generalize.
