I think the idea has permeated way past just a tiny % of people, honestly. It seems to be the mainstream pov to be all-accepting of trans ideas, and it's particularly harmful especially when it comes to children transitioning being legally enforced in places like Canada.

universities, law, mainstream culture, and "gender affirming" psychology isn't really a tiny % of people. I do agree that most people would disagree with a lot of this stuff if you talk to them 1 on 1, but it's career suicide and social suicide to publicly express disagreements for most influential people. It's why they are so angry at this game and Jk Rowling, she has fuck you money. It doesn't matter what they think, she can express her opinions while people simultaneously enjoy the universe she crafted.

online for sure, but get most card carrying liberals in person and they're happy to listen to or even agree with basic criticisms. online they dont want to lose "points" or draw harassment.

yeah I agree that vitriol is increased online, but that's not a reason to dismiss the behavior. Online is a tremendous portion of people's lives now, careers and socially. I hate the term "chronically online" but it's an accurate description of western society now. People behaving that way online reflects the majority of people's lives and experiences now, especially younger generations.

my hope is that eventually "online" becomes less anonymous. people are polite in person because u know who they are. eventually i think this behavior will be extended online but its just a hope.

no.. speaking to the "vitriol online"
My point about the decline of peoples behavior online is real.. You want proof go to general chat while playing COD. You wont doubt ever, that the US needs better education and overall mentorship after that.

Textbook Streisand effect.

doubt it. i guess the main reason it's selling well is that it appeals to a group that is notoriously hard to reach for the gaming industry: women and girls - not people who only learned of it through the completely overblown "controversy" regarding jk rowling's anti trans bigotry.

I don't think it has as much to do with the education of the American people as it is a reflection of how people behave when anonymous in a competitive and aggressive situation.

These cod lobbies have remained like that forever, hell d2 is a prime example of shit talk and insults in game and it's the main thing I did in bmpk and on these forums in its height.

I think education and regulation (video game companies banning people for harassment or slurs) has attempted to stifle it, but it seems to be human behavior in these anonymous and competitive/aggressive situations.
