....the argument was not would you be happy to receive 10K because you're already doing well. Of course the majority of people are going to be happy with an upfront 10K....... dosen't take much thinking to know that.

Your post was about making 110K not sound like a lot, which based on statistics of median incomes across the country and even in the large cities you referenced 110 by the majority of standards is indeed a lot, double in most cases.

buddy ur a super pleb bro you think people who make 100k a year are all loaded and just rolling in money?

you need a reality check

Tell me you make minimum wage without telling me you make minimum wage

Median income in my city is about 1/4 of that. If you make 100k and are not loaded after a couple years then you doing something wrong, probably need to reevaluate where you live. No one entitled to live in high cost of living cities.

With cost of living varying wildly across a large and diverse nation, so does the living standard that a certain income provides. If you're making $100k and live in North Dakota or Alabama, you're indeed loaded. If you're making $100k and live in San Francisco, you're barely above the poverty line because you're spending $40k of your after tax income on rent alone.

What are you going on about. We are talking about your posts. You are the one that made it sound like 110K is not a lot.

"You act like $110K is a lot. Especially in big higher cost of living cities where it's the minimum."

I showed you that yes the average person in the USA would call 110k a lot even in higher cost cities.

It's all relative. $100K isn't much in the grand scheme and certainly should qualify for the $10K as it does. I think it should be higher than $125K really.

what's hilarious is I told all my friends last January to get on this student loan program because they were going to be forgiven and I was met with so much backlash. Today I had like 15 people unfriend me on Facebook over it. it's like the folks who were born privileged don't want folks who were born into poverty to have anything nice in the world.

You do realize Republican states are the biggest recipient of government assistance....right? I guess you didn't realize that based on your EBT comment lmao.

The vast majority of thr U.S. GDP comes from liberal cities and states.

the IRS was never used in verifying income for the Department of Education (least as far as I'm aware). They ask for last year's taxes in addition to the last few paystubs. (or at least they did for my income-based repayments).

Fairly certain it wouldn't be legal for them to share information like that.

Edit: Hence the whole fafsa process instead of them just taking the information directly from the IRS.

indeed, but this is not status quo. this is a massive event. We saw websites crash in the wake of the announcement. a move (unilaterally extinguishing at least a portion of debt across all student load holders) that will be challenged in courts. it’s a grey area at best since Congress has this authority, not the Exec branch. it’ll need govt muscle

of course, Congress has ceded a great deal of its legislative responsibility to the Judiciary and Executive over the past few decades, so who knows.

100% this. when the legislature cant even be trusted to complete a budget plan i take both their cheers and jeers with little weight.

my Wisconsin state senate is now taking its 2nd 9 month break from legislation since Evers took office. since 2019 the republican senate (21 to 12 majority) has taken 18 months off due to veto power of the democratic governor. no bipartisan attempts, no veto proof compromises, just paid vacation.
