We saw websites crash in the wake of the announcement. a move (unilaterally extinguishing at least a portion of debt across all student load holders) that will be challenged in courts. it’s a grey area at best since Congress has this authority, not the Exec branch. it’ll need govt muscle
of course, Congress has ceded a great deal of its legislative responsibility to the Judiciary and Executive over the past few decades, so who knows.
100% this. when the legislature cant even be trusted to complete a budget plan i take both their cheers and jeers with little weight.
my Wisconsin state senate is now taking its 2nd 9 month break from legislation since Evers took office. since 2019 the republican senate (21 to 12 majority) has taken 18 months off due to veto power of the democratic governor. no bipartisan attempts, no veto proof compromises, just paid vacation.
