It's a broad and poorly defined term, but the central underpinnings are two-fold. One, the serial rejection of Western rationality and Classical learning. And two, stemming out of that, race/identity essentialism in place of class essentialism. The primary problem from an intellectual standpoint is that these lines of thought tend to be non-falsifiable and necessarily dogmatic. Take the Obama administration's approach to school suspensions. Blacks are suspended at higher rates, ergo, there must be active racism that needs to be addressed by bringing black suspension rates back in line with other disparate groups. This sort of black and white thinking clearly misses the mark, but when you start with the axiom that all disparities are the result of present and active discrimination, it quickly becomes impossible to reach any other conclusion.

The comparisons to Marx are mostly off-point insofar as they're a great insult to Marx.
