The interest of "The West" is not monolithic. The relationship between Western Europe and Russia is one such conflict of interest.
For example, a German (EU follows) - Russian alliance is also a threat to US interests... China is not the only one :)

If Nazis fall then and only then there will be true peace. There was a big war on Terror. When will the countries unite together with Russia to fight national socialism globally ? The worst mistake was to let Russia fight alone the war against Nazis. The better way would have been if UK USA and the rest of those who fought on World War 2 forced to break corrupt regimes of fascists. May we remember the heroes who died on the hands of an Idiot who thought there should be one race, one skin colour one language to rule the world during World War 2.

We need back the global war on Fascism rather than one fighting this war alone and being blamed. That war should be with talks and dragging the bad guys into prison. They way Russia does it will just help fascism to make more puppets global. Killing Nazis alone did not end WW2 but persuading the World there are better regimes did.
