Some people are fine with authoritarian actions that do not follow due process if it's in line with their biases. Others are more principled people who want the official channels to handle things in a fair and honest way.

I don't support Trudeau making this into a spectacle, and I didn't support Trump trying to convince people to refuse to certify the election or throw Pence under the bus and try to strongarm him into pulling funny business at the EC. Thankfully Trump was less of a strongman than blackface Trudeau.

Yea, I'm waiting for Trudeau to build Trucker concentration labor camps in Xin Ji ang.

Fucking with commerce is fine for govts to do when they mandate lockdowns, but shut down the border as a group of citizens and you get the lash.

I suppose Lucas should have put in those deleted scenes just before his empire speech where Chancellor Palpatine accuses his senate opponents of undermining democracy and vowing to protect free assembly

combining star wars with politics in any sense is awful, but I couldn't resist.

Social criticism has always been one of the main purposes and sources of creative spark of SciFi. Sometimes, its completely on the nose, like how Battlestar Galactica (2000s) was overt commentary and processing of the war on terror, or how the ridiculous wokeness overload in Supergirl from season 2 onward was clearly a criticism of Trump. Other times it's a bit more subtle. Typically, the SciFi which develops its social criticism as a by-product of a coherent story, rather than having a plot which is clearly woven around a predetermined social message, is far more compelling. See for example the OG Star Wars trilogy or phase 1 MCU.

Trump did considerably more than just asking for recounts. He pressured all sorts of officials into overturning the results of the election or not certifying certain states. His post-election campaign to subvert the outcome of the election was inept and largely inconsequential, but still far from innocuous.

He also lied to millions of his supporters implying Pence could stop the whole process, when his certification was always just ceremonial, putting Pence's life in danger and furthering the lie that corrupt courts and legislative bodies, rather than lack of proof, were the reason Biden got sworn in.
