That's what I've been trying to explain to him all the time: he assumes that the female perception of male attractiveness should follow a normal distribution without giving any proper reasoning, and then takes the fact that reality doesn't conform to his unrealistic assumption as proof for his point.

To be fair, he was talking about a percentile-based rating, which implies that he was indeed referring to the median when talking about the "average".
