At that point the safest way to "abort" the fetus is just to induce birth and take care of it. Happens pretty frequently when there's complications.

Vast majority of abortions that occur late in pregnancy (which is exceedingly rare) are due to substantial complications. Your moral outrage isn't commensurate with reality.

Roughly 1% of abortions occur at 21 weeks or later, and getting an abortion in later pregnancy is quite difficult, due to state laws and fewer providers at that stage of gestation. There are many fetal abnormalities that can't be detected until around ~weeks 15 - 20.

The idea that 'babies get ripped out 1 week before birth' is just disconnected from reality. I understand that people have a moral position against abortion, but late-term abortions are just so rare and usually the result of complications or accessibility issues that resulted in someone not being able to get an abortion until > week 21.

I'm pointing out your flawed logic rather than the practical reality

You said at any stage it's fine

Abortion only exists in reality. You're more interested in moral platitudes than having a position on abortion imo.

How come there is so much discussion about what to do with unwanted pregnancies once we have them, but very little discussion on how to prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place?

Unwanted pregnancies are a problem, regardless how they turn out. Terminating an unwanted pregnancy does not solve the problem. In fact, it might even proliferate the root problem, since easy access to termination means that people have less incentive to avoid creating the problem.

I'm not against some discussion about what to do about unwanted pregnancies once we have them. I just wonder why there is no discussion about how to address the root problem.
