A recent survey by the German Association for Intensive-Care and Emergency Medicine reveals a surprising degree of reluctance:
Between December 3 and 12, a total of 2305 doctors and nurses, most of them working in ICUs, were polled. 70% of the participants had practiced in their field for at least 10 years.
- among doctors, 73% said they would currently be willing to get the covid vaccine. Among caregivers or nursing staff, the number is slightly less than 50%.
- willingness to get the vaccine is lower among women. overall, around 50% of the female study participants (doctors and nurses) are ready to get the vaccine.
- 90% of the doctors and 75% of the nurses said they consider the vaccine important for containing the pandemic
- slightly more than half the nursing staff are concered about potential side effects, 20% have strong concerns.
- among doctors, 25% are concerned about side effects, 5% strongly.
- 55% of the nursing staff are concerned about long-term damage, 25% strongly.
- 35% of doctors are concerned about long-term damage, 10% strongly.
https://www.aerzteblatt.de/nachrichten/119400/Drei-Viertel-der-Aerzte-wollen-sich-gegen-SARS-CoV-2-impfen-lassenI have a hard time making sense of these numbers. Could it really be that 25++% of experienced medical personnel from a field where they have regular contact with covid patients are science-denying anti-vaxxers or otherwise fall for baseless, unjustified concerns?
