I wouldn't use Japan as an example personally. Workers work 60+ hrs per week and don't even have enough spare time to get married.

None of this is caused by a "too low" CEO compensation in Japanese companies...
There is more to worker quality of life than a (preferably low) spread between worker and CEO compensation. But the opposite is true: if this spread becomes too large, then this in and off itself depresses worker qol.
