i'd vote bunk, yes. i think that voting power doesn't eliminate gripes but makes it so that when voted on the population only has the population to blame. if i had it my way we'd vote for representation AND vote on their policy proposals. so that every tax break or gender neutral bathroom is a product of the people.

Holy shit. Do you actually think communism means no democracy?

Democracy was destroyed repeatedly on Latin American countries because it leads to socialism.

Allende won presidential elections before the CIA assassinated him and installed General Pinochet.

Basically every socialist movement since WW2 has felt America's wrath for daring to suggest that hereditary status should be abolished

And the Venezuelan poor wanted Chavez. He promptly ran the entire nation into the ground.

Perhaps we should examine why the uneducated poor in destitute nations make poor decisions with respect to their country's future.

He did well and the quality of life increased until his death, then it fell apart.

You used a poor example. Life was better under him than before or after him.

You don't think they would go back right fucking now? Lol.

I don't expect the Venezuelan poor to have great insight into the economy of their country, but for Westerners, there's really no excuse.

He destroyed the national oil company by pillaging it for resources and persecuting the company's talent, driving them overseas into the arms of private oil firms willing to pay them what they're worth.

He then overspent to a collosal degree, leaving Venezuela completely unprepared for any reversion in the price of oil. Oil at $140 a barrel will cover up any amount of ineptitude.

do i think it theoretically means that? no. do i think it invariably leads there in reality? yes. at least in systems with a large number of people.

it comes down to a fairly simple mechanism. money is taken from everyone to redistribute, disagreement about where that redistribution arises, democracy is attacked to cut down the vocal disagreement.

in a similar fashion western democracy has lead to the voices of people being silenced and we're in a current state of political gridlock (both the USA and UK for that matter) about any and all issues.

in both a communist and democratic state corruption is the end result, communism just adds an unachievable and in my opinion inefficient equality of outcome model.

communism generally also seems to lead to democracy crushing outcomes. all we have are models of communist states, none of which seem to be very democratic. could it in theory be done democratically? maybe. imo will it? no.
