Well first there's the personification of some generic, unspecified religion as being judgmental and condemning, causing great harm in the world, as if every world religion does this all the same.

i think it's meant to be understood without being said which ones he's talking about

no one ever really hates on Buddhism

Which is why he shouldn't be such a shithead and consider his words carefully, but he's obviously one of those pricks who thinks he's always right, you have no idea how bad I want to punch that little twerp in the face.

The fact that he actually has followers makes it so much worse.

He specifies and opens with 'your religion'. As this quote is out of context we have no idea if he's referring to a specific religion or not.

Yet somehow you are able to agree with him on every single point even though you don't know the context.

Intellectual dishonesty is running rampant on this forum lately :-/

Not at all. I will freely admit that when I read it I thought 'yep. That's Christianity alright'. What other religion controls the experiences of every day Americans? From the content I assumed the context. I could easily be wrong however and you're right to point that out.

Ok then. I still think he's being unnecessarily harsh which even if his practical goal is to get religion out of government and his life in general, I think he's doing the cause a disservice by being such an arrogant prick.

He's basically just pandering to the already militant atheists.

You could be right. Or he could be one of those 'already militant atheists' and genuinely want those things.

If I became an internet personality saying the things I say sometimes I wouldn't be surprised if you said the same about me. But I can say I honestly believe a large amount of what I say about religion. Assuming he is being dishonest with no evidence to support it is intellectually dishonest.

e/ and I don't think his harshness is anywhere near to the point of being over the top or 'unnecessary'. People need to know how strongly we feel about the separation of church and state and it's hard to get that across without sounding harsh.

Maybe I misstated what I meant. I'm aware he's a militant atheist and genuinely wants those things, but I don't think his method of realizing his goals is going to have any impact. The best way to win hearts and minds is not to be overwhelmingly condescending.

Tell that to Dawkins. He's won hundreds of thousands.
