Being "physical" is extremely arbitrary. I'd argue that emotional and mental abuse is FAR more damaging than physical abuse. Any form of discipline is a form of violence because you're exerting unwanted force on someone.

to carve a priceless totem out of a plain stick, you need to 'exert unwanted force'

Along with physical abuse comes mental abuse. You can't have physical abuse without mental and emotional abuse.

But you're simply using hyperbole now. There is no comparison between taking a belt to your kid and not letting them watch TV for a day. The first is infinitely worse.

Of course it is. It's a breach of contract.

"well...the child didn't voluntarily enter the contract and ask to be born!"

lol. NAP is laughable. But...on a related note, corporal punishment is hardly ever necessary to train a child how to act properly. So many parents don't understand the principles of selective positive reinforcement, and the power it can hold. The problem is when parents unconditionally give love and caring to their child, no matter what they do.

Punishment is only good if it is clear, selective, and makes an impression as well.

Its only a matter of time until not only is spanking made illegal by the pussified modern society, but parents can be arrested for mentally 'abusing' their children after shattering their fragile psyches by not buying them that candy they whined for and made a scene in a supermarket. You didn't buy it for them? Whats wrong with you, are you some kind of monster!? I can see it already. Its no fallacious slippery slope, its the logical next progression.

Laws, sausages and productive law abiding productive members of society. You don't want to see children learn to behave, and as a result, they don't learn, and you wind up with generations of coddled NEETs and brats and entitled pricks.
Lack of discipline and instant gratification is what is unweaving the moral fabric of our nation and corrupting our youth, leading them to decadence, indecency and hollow lives.
Down this path is your imploding and unsustainable welfare state and the fall of an empire like rome before it.

You should look up the definition of hyperbole. If you knew what it was maybe you'd reign it in a little.

Haven't read the thread in earnest, but I get the impression Gooms has some high quality trolling going on here.
