Along with physical abuse comes mental abuse. You can't have physical abuse without mental and emotional abuse.

lol. NAP is laughable. But...on a related note, corporal punishment is hardly ever necessary to train a child how to act properly. So many parents don't understand the principles of selective positive reinforcement, and the power it can hold. The problem is when parents unconditionally give love and caring to their child, no matter what they do.

Punishment is only good if it is clear, selective, and makes an impression as well.

Its only a matter of time until not only is spanking made illegal by the pussified modern society, but parents can be arrested for mentally 'abusing' their children after shattering their fragile psyches by not buying them that candy they whined for and made a scene in a supermarket.
