This is the age of information and technology.
Five hundred years ago Christopher Columbus sailed the world, and discovered that the world was not flat. There are people today that would argue that the world is flat. The reason is because the playing field has been leveled, and countries from around the world are now competitive players.
Technology has been made available all over the world, and countries that were once some of the poorest are now incredibly wealthy. Fewer people are no longer rotting like vegetables on the docks of India and China, hoping to get onto a boat for the opportunity to make something of themselves.
Having an internet connection and a computer can make a significant difference.
People from various countries have access to information, and can become educated. These people are not only educated, they will work harder and for less money. Engineering is engineering; it makes little difference the designing is done by someone on your soil or drafted to somebody in India. I believe India is pumping out a lot of nurses and doctors, and medical tourism is increasing there.
The world is changing rapidly. America will not be the top dog forever.
the issue with christopher colombus was he was trying to get to india in order to create a trade route, at the time the world was known to be round and there was even some very good approximations on its circumference.
given this knowledge of the size of the world and that it was round, most the people felt that Colombus would die of thirst/starvation before ever completing the 10,000+ mile journy to india, which he would have if not for him happening upon america.
