I remember how rapidly my emotions changed when the second plane hit . On the channel I was watching they were discussing the size of the hole in the first tower hit since the initial media reports were saying a small plane had been involved and there was this one commentator saying that he thought the hole was way too big to have been anything but a jetliner .
As they discussed it back and forth the cameras were of course trained on the complex and then right in front of our eyes all doubt was removed as to what had happened when we all saw the second plane slamming into the other building .
It is amazing how vivid a memory can remain .
My most vivid memory is walking into the kitchen during that exact exchange, coming back into the living room, and seeing my 3 year-old sucking his thumb and pointing silently at the screen.
I also remember quite clearly all the support we received from civilized people all over the world--oh, and the glee and schadenfreude from the cynical barbarians. The more things change...
