Agreed, It on surface level from numbers released appeared it was more than paying for itself, something like $2.80 of money recouped for every dollar of cost. I could be butchering those numbers, but it was positive.

I've had to take on an airline and phone company in my time, two experiences that were indescribably miserable and only got recouped after going to the respective bodies for consumer protection.

i must be lucky, ive never had to do anything like that. that said agreed, no desire to see consumer protection agencies affected at all.

yes, that's what i did, which is why im not married to it lol.

did you look at this section? or just didnt scroll far enough? sounds like you scrolled until you found something you think is needed, then assumed it was all a farce.

since we're apparently in a strawman contest, why do you support the US federal govt renewing 80k$/year in Wall Street Journal subscriptions?

Honestly if all that you took away from that discussion is that Musk and Trump lie on TV im happy

And just think, all those kids continue on his genetics and his legacy, well beyond his, or your life. That's not even mentioning his extensive body of work, which has influenced spacecraft and rocketry. He's like a virus infecting the world with Muskness, and also it seems, your psyche. Do you have nightmares about Elon?

To be fair most of those kids are not going to turn out okay

Being named weird alt-code symbols, having no father and being conceived in a test tube doesn't really give them good odds

Giving them boatloads of money isn't a fix, it will only enable self destructive behaviour

A lot of lobbies probably hate it. I cover banks and a lot of credit card banks constantly run into issues where they overstep with consumers. Like every few years CFPB basically smacks them over the head with some fine for it. Whether it's charging too much for late fees or some other unfair practice.

This impacts millions, and it's usually the poorest people that have poor financial hygiene. I'm generally in favor of deregulation and smaller government but in cases like these we absolutely need some watch dog that has enough bark and bite to keep predatory behavior in check.

It's not complete monopoly status here in Canada but it's close in most industries now. If you have to battle someone like Bell in my case and Air Canada it's just series of phone transfers, rejections and unresponsive reps.

Everytime it's not been worth my time in hours but it's the principle of it.

It's at the point where it's so borderline monopolistic here that brand damage does very little. There's no incentive to honour things.

Same with banks as void mentioned.

the worst thing by me is telecom companies. most have a monopoly on full medium sized cities. dont want spectrum internet/cable? alternatives suck so good luck. thankfully 5g wireless and streaming services are breaking it up, but it was a shitty 20 years of monopoly status.

The other biggie not really related to doge but does provide some oversight is attempting to rid the two democratic FTC commissioners via firing them.

They have active cases against Amazon, X, Meta etc. Guess which companies are latched to Donald's tits right now. I'm pro capitalism but acknowledge we do need guardrails for both consumer, investor and most importantly in my opinion worker protection.

So don't love that.

Things like education. If a hammer is better than a scalpel so be it. I'll wait and judge by results. Clearly the education department is having issues and maybe the hammer and a rebuild is the best way. I don't know let's see what the results are.

Spectrum is one of the biggest scumbags ever when it comes to this. I used to live in an area where i can only get Spectrum and they kept raising my internet bill, seemingly every 6 months, bill fucking doubles in like 2 years. I call them to complain why I'm paying more than someone that would just sign onto the service even though i've been a client for 10 years and they basically tell me tough luck you have no other option.

Fast forward today i live in an area where both Spectrum and Verizon compete. I have Verizon Fios now and Spectrum is constantly spamming me with deals which are way lower than what i used to pay when i was stuck in their monopolized region. Scumbag tactics like these is why i will never get Spectrum again. Good job, you made an extra 20 bucks per month but lost a customer for life retards.

agreed, the dept of ed stuff doesnt worry me, and my wife is a public school teacher.

state sends money to fed, fed red tapes it, sends back to states. $$$ lost in transmission. its a system that benefits low economy states because they get back more than they send in. if that proves needed, and it will, its better to target it with specific grants case by case imo.

yup i was so happy to get rid of that junk when i moved to the country. had to live with 10mbps phone jack internet for 6 years, but it wasnt terrible. and now we have 150mbps verizon 5g internet for 45$/month or so.
