Until you develop consciousness you are an object, not a person.

After that, you have to have a claim to the woman's body, and you don't have that. There is no circumstance where I can be entitled to the medical use of another's body.

This qualifies as an anti-abortion argument.

Imagine a world where vagina wasn't central to human life. How powerless would women be?

The reality is life begins at conception. Perhaps there is alternative to aborting them, state owned test tube farms.

In terms of removing the fetus from her body, the mother has a right to do that at any time for any reason. You have the absolute sayv over your body and the reasons to violate that are extremely few and far between.

I have no qualms about regulating the specific manner that it happens once the fetus reaches viability though. Like an 8 month birth is probably less risky than an 8 month abortion, but she will always retain the right to decide to remove another person from her body.

Which week or month of gestation is the current medical limit for premature births to have a reasonable chance at survival (without life-long disabilities like blindness)? I would argue that that should be a common-sense upper limit on (non-medically indicated) late-term abortions.

The development of human life is not a discrete event, it happens on a continuous scale and we have to draw a line somewhere.

I draw the line at destroying an embryo or fetus that otherwise would continue on as a life.

Did you know that some 40-60% of zygotes (fertilized eggs) fail to nest or otherwise end in a timely miscarriage, often times so early that the woman doesn't even realize she was ever pregnant? And even among the known pregnancies, some 10-20% end in a miscarriage within the first 12 weeks.

Neither does a newborn. Certainly, it would be correct to say that an adult dog or pig has more in the way of consciousness than a newborn, and therefore should be entitled to greater legal protection. But our legal system is not designed that way, nor is it designed to remove human dignity by eliminating protections for the severely mentally disabled. It's therefore true to say that your argument is neither true in theory or practice. We are obliged to disregard it.

When I was backpacking recently in Asia it struck me how most of the local women I spoke to would never consider an abortion, even when it's available. To them, killing their baby would be unconscionable, cruel and selfish. I respect their selflessness in contrast to Western selfishness: I know if I got someone pregnant I'd be tempted to abort the child because it's convenient for me and I'm the product of a society that doesn't value the life of the unborn.
