I wholeheartedly agree with what you have shared except for the last bit. Yet, I may be mistaken about what you were intending.
Russians are not at all reflected in their current government. Even Gorbachev demonstrated to the world that some Russian leaders may be capable of choosing to be humanists/humanitarians. I do not think that the majority of Russians are any different than Canadians, I say Canadians as I can only speak from my experiences as a Canadian as that is my country. Russia's government as like with North Korea, Syria, and Iran, just to name a few tyrannical regimes, share a lot of overlap. From what these governments have demonstrated to the world, they are more than willing to add to the suffering of their own people for reasons which are self-serving. I cannot read minds, so, I do not know what Putin's endgame is. All that I know is that Putin and his enablers' existences are making Russians and the world suffer. If that is the future that some desire, may their desires never manifest while there is life on this planet.
Of course it's the Russian elite, the ones who want to keep their priviledge, their network, a small group of people.
