They'll never get a conviction ofc but the point is drag people through court costing them alot of money for daring to defend themselves from the criminals we catch and release every week
Anyone can be convicted when its put to a jury, as it is in Canada and America alike. All it takes is a prosecutor willing to play to prejudices instead of facts. And there's no shortage of innocent men in prison today because of prosecutors zealously representing their ratio
And this is of course a good thing, it means we can rid society of undesirable elements like Ali Mian who were clearly just waiting for the right moment to strike out and murder a home invader, mugger or carjacker. If we let scum like this roam our streets, they might even one day get in a shootout with a mass shooter and murder him right in broad daylight. I think its all well and good to persecute these would-be Rambos and drain their resources at trial, but what really matters is making an example of them with a successful prosecution
