A horrible idea. Sales taxes disproportionately affect the poor and the lower middle class while income taxes tend to be more progressive (in the fiscal sense). True tax reform has to reduce the tax burden on the bottom 75% of income earners, not raise the burden for the well-earning folks in the 75 - 95% bracket, raise taxes on the top 1% and drastically raise taxes on the top 0.1%. The latter make up the donor class of both parties though, so that's clearly not gonna happen.

As a replacement for the income tax? I doubt that that's enough to sustain a modern state without massive privatizations of tasks which shouldn't be privatized.

There would be a way to make them a little fairer: sharply increase the rates on goods consumed by the wealthiest (big cars, yachts, jewelry, etc.)... And i think there's a tax on big properties transactions in US already (Would have to check this one)
But even with these corrections, others taxes (revenue, medium business & corporate taxes...) have to be maintained.

Meaning what the Republicans are proposing is a pure HoldUP of 3/4 of americans ^_^

yes, of course a 800 billion warmonger budget like in the US or a 1 trillion welfare state like germany are not possible anymore

grab a red pen and cut the nonsense nobody really needs

there are good examples for privatisation under a framework like healthcare in the netherlands

last i remember is that health insurance is private, but the companies have to offer certain "base packs" for everyone

which means people have access at an affordable price point and competition can lower the prices

everything the state touches goes to shit, just look at our garbage healthcare, the services are AWFUL value for what working people are paying

i dont see why you wouldnt privatise many things that are not 100% essential like security
