Just looking at the timeline quickly, Drake took off maybe just slightly before The Weeknd? Around the same time, within a year? While I can imagine that The Weeknd got a rise from a Drake endorsement, perhaps also be aware that portraying Drake as a kingmaker is itself a form of advertisement, and there is potential there for self-aggrandizement.
Drake took off when they gave him lead on that Eminem/Drake/Lil Wayne/whoever else was in it song.. called.. forever. I think it was forever. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It wasn't for 5yrs or so after that when Weeknd went mainstream.
I didn't say Drake was a kingmaker man, I said Drake's manager told Drake to do it.. they're all just pawns.
