White House playing it cool.

Basically it's a move to avoid a primary and force Democrats not to run a candidate in Arizona in 2024. Pragmatists are usually good at politics.

Ruben Gallego is going to run. He's been waiting to primary her for a while. Now it will just be a straight run against anyone else who might run for the D nomination in AZ.

Kari Lake's policies appeal to the GOP base, so I don't really understand what your point is...
Also keep in mind that the primary electorate is different from that in the general election. The die-hards and wingnuts have outsized sway there.

And how is Kari Lake operating now, as a big proponent of Trumpist policies or a proponent of election denialism?

So what's the tally now? TWO Dems have left the party?

Sinema and Tulsi Gabbard.

Gabbard has some libertarian leanings, so that wasn't a surprise. Sinema was going to get smoked by Ruben Gallego in the primary, so her going Independent (as opposed to flipping to the GOP) is hoping that there will be enough of a vote split between whatever hard right candidate the GOP fields (maybe Masters again) and the left bloc which will go to Gallego, that whatever remains gives her a plurality. That, or she's setting herself up for a nice cushy corporate position after 2024.

Lake clearly prioritized the election denialism//auditioning as Trump's 2024 running mate. And what did it get her? A loss in a very winnable race. Based on her charisma and media savvyness, the C+ status of her opponent and the Republican-leaning environment, she absolutely should have won. She embraced the Trumpism unapologetically and was not rewarded; she didn't do better than the other statewide candidates except for Masters (who was a horrible candidate running against a super strong incumbent).

My favorite description of Fetterman is "AOC in Shrek's body".

This is probably best for another subject but I think people greatly underestimate AOC. I would actually predict a President AOC if the opponent was anyone but Trump or DeSantis. She's as cocky as Trump, is pretty damn good at attracting attention, and knows exactly what to say to her constituents
