real communism has never been tried, because real communism isn't real.

Nobody can answer this question meaningfully, because no one has ever lived in Russia for a respectable length of time. Everything we know about the country is filtered through the media, and we all know how reliable and unbiased the media is.

it must be hard for russia to have such a high population with no one ever living there for a respectable length of time.

I meant the posters here. As far as I know, nobody here is Russian, aside from a few shills.

You don't need to live somewhere for 30 years to have a basic grasp of how the politics are.

I didn't say one would need to have lived in Russia for 30 years. However, if you have never set foot in that country, then everything you think you know about it is filtered through the western media, which is unreliable and biased.

Or I guess you can have Russian friends who have lived there. But I don't think this is the case with most posters here.

The Internet's a magical place - full of people sharing their experiences online for the world to see.

You are right, I forgot about the internet. But there is a downside to it though, you cannot verify how true the stories are.
