ranges from roughly $60,000 to $123,500 annually for 7.5-hour workdays (37.5-hour workweeks) and a shorter working year than people in the private sector typically endure

only 40% of the teachers in the state make that, likely in Seattle and Portland where most of the population lives and cost of living is at or near nationwide high.

in any case the 7.5 hours per day figure is hogwash, any teachers doing that are doing a terrible job. teaching is far more than a 40hr/week job if done even moderately right.

in any case given nationwide shortages schools have little choice, pay more or continue down the road of massive turnover and closing sectors of programs.

negotiating wages is a function of the free market economy right wingers desire. school pay rubrics are a libertarians nightmare.

refusing to work isn't negotiation imo, it's coercion

teachers have a duty to the children

If it were up to me, I'd tell them to look for work elsewhere because they are all unemployed.

so school just doesnt happen? lol. this is the result of a teacher shortage, there's not even close to enough teachers to replace them.

Lol, I just want to see the look of shock on their faces if they replaced public schools with city-state tutors.

Straight out of university starting wage here where I am in Canada. Granted its remote but all their expenses are also paid for and theyre given housing.

Cant remotely fill the ranks. Missing like 30% of needed teachers across the province this year.

Same with Northern Quebec this year. They're missing like 90 teachers, all over 100k salaries all with living and housing paid for.

77/502 vacant, kids are going just be fucked.
