i'd set the food on fire since its mostly oil and ethanol and use those ashes to fastly grow a very healthy sweet potato crop from old dried slivers.

where would you have the seeds from? also, you'd starve months before your first harvest...

i don't understand. the food there is technically edible. it's not very good, and certainly not healthy, but better than starving...

that said, it's been at least 6 years since i last had fast food - if you don't count döner kebab, which i had a couple of during that time. also not particularly healthy, but tasty at least.

I am not saying foods like doner kebabs are super healthy, but if they also come with a lot of veggies then that should make it better.

I really like donairs, and I know the meat they use is heavily processed, but they include fresh, raw veggies like onion, tomato, letteuce...etc in good amounts.

Clearly, you have never grown a garden.
You don't have sweet potatoe seeds and he already said where they came from.

Living off the land is difficult but possible.

Yes he might need food from super markets during the transitional period. But once everything starts to be harvest-ready, he won't need super markets anymore.

Self-sufficiency of this kind is very empowering, which is why the US government treats survivalists and homesteaders as enemies and keeps close tabs on them.

you're wrong about the garden, but you're right about the sweet potato seeds. the only things i grow are tomatoes, chilis, and chive. that's enough work each summer. that said, you'd still starve months before the first harvest in op's scenario.

heavily depends on where you buy, and which kind of meat you choose. usually they have two different options here, but yes, generally speaking you're right that it's not the best quality - heavily processed and fat. that said, i couldn't care less about that. i never had to count calories, i can literally eat whatever i want, and döner just happens to be a bit higher on that list than burgers and fries.

apparently we understood op's scenario differently. i thought the question was "would you eat mcdonalds or rather starve because it's so bad?", and not "would you be able to live off the land if necessary?". personally, i don't have any experience growing potatoes or grains, nor with fishing, hunting, or trapping - but i figure that growing potatoes wouldn't be harder than growing tomatoes, and fishing is probably something i could pick up rather quickly, if my life depended on it. i'd rather buy it though...
