Thing about the NY AG's case is, it's a civil case, not a criminal one. And while a person is still allowed to plead the 5th in a civil case, unlike criminal cases, the court is allowed to infer guilt (adverse inference) when independent evidence exists of the fact being questioned.

The entirety (basically) of the United States government vowed to put you in jail. For seven years you are bombarded with every single legal hurdle available to be thrown at you. You cannot say or do anything without being taken out of context and having weeks of hit pieces and more frivolous lawsuits thrown at you.
