John Stewart, and those like him are a dying breed on the left. He understood some sense of the average American, and instead of feeling contempt for that, he felt empathy and a desire to engage and reason with them.

The new leftist approach is to woke-scold these plebes into submission, to hold them with contempt, and if they will not submit and capitulate to de-platform them and ban them one at a time until they are all gone from public society.
