I am asking what that would really look like though. Again isn't that the majority of shows on some channels anyway? I mean there might be like 1 black person in some shows. Like TV Tropolis or whatever I used to watch was just Seinfeld, Friends, Everybody loves Raymond, King of Queens, That 70s Show, maybe Golden Girls, etc.

What dose an exclusively white channel run thats different from any of those that already basically exist?

Yes, MOST humans in America are white. At least I assume that.. I'm sure there is a statistic out there. Naturally most people will be white on the tv because of that. However, that isn't because it's exclusive to white people. BET is exclusive.

Added note: Also.. to be completely honest. TLC is pretty much all white exclusively but it just doesn't say that. Would it be considered racist to have other exclusive channels? I don't think so. I believe it would simply be fair is all.

Lol.. right.. but like.. black people fish too. The message of the bass fishing isn't to segregate race and or ethnicity. Simply, a lot of white people just fish...

Sure as long as theres a market. Most TV shows dont want to cater to one crowd, but as you said most TV shows are white actors because white people make up the majority of the NA population.

BET came along because there was an untapped market, and it was lucrative.

It likely wouldn't be lucrative to have an CET. Most shows would rather sell their broadcasting rights to channels that are watched widely by everyone. I makes little financial sense to have a CET and these companies are not charities.

BET was founded in 1980, when there was very little Black representation on TV, relative to their proportion of the population. Whites have ALWAYS had representation (to the point of having been overrepresented for DECADES).

NGL, my first impulse on seeing this thread was to simply report it and move on. Instead, I'll provide a perspective that's somewhat different than the rest:

BET has non-blacks on it, just as any other channel has non-whites on it. BET simply focuses on shows and entertainment that stars black people. There's nothing wrong with that, nor would there be anything wrong with that were there channels that focused on that for white or brown people. Though there would certainly be cries of "Muh Racisms!" were it to be attempted.

The larger issue I have, given that back when I had cable, I tuned into BET from time to time was that a lot of their shows just took stories about white people and retconned them into having black stars. Take one of the most popular movies on BET, Predator 2. Entertaining show, but nowhere near the quality of Predator, but they highlight it because the primary star was black. On the flipside, a primary co-star of Predator was black, so why don't they play that too?

More and more today, stories are simply being re-written to turn white people into black people, or brown people, or whatever. Why? There are millions of stories to be told out of Africa. There are millions of stories created and that can be told out of black American culture. Why don't we highlight THOSE stories, as opposed to simply "reimagining" a world where white people are simply black?

Now shows like Fresh Prince of Bel Air were amazing, and unique, though I suppose in today's anti-family environment, bringing them up is a no no, but still, where are the stories that bring something new, as opposed to retconning something old into now being "black"?

One could spend 500 lifetimes studying the history of "Black Africa" and turn nearly all of it into exciting and innovated new shows, series, and movies, but they don't and aren't. Hell, one could spend 500 lifetimes studying the history of "Black America" and do the same. Yet they don't. Why not?

I tend to think any attempt at making anything comparable to a BET would fall prey to the same exact pit of creative-null that BET has fallen to. So why waste your time? Instead, just focus on making new stories. All the focus on race and "reimagining" leads to nothing but garbage, like the "Wheel of Time" series. Aren't we tired of that yet?

Anyhow, still think the thread is stupid and intended to do nothing more than race bait, but there's my honest opinion on the subject.

I actually agree with a lot of this.

Stop fucking remastering movies, or whatever its called. There are so many good novels out there, movies could be based off of or stories or what have you.

Recasting, bloating shit with CGI, its made movies trash.

Give me a good story with a low budget any day over a high budget remaster and do not stick wet paper bags in roles just for representation purposes. There has to be better actors. Tris from the Witcher. Every Wheel of Time Actor except Miranda. I dont care if they are black, white purple or orange just make sure the they can act out the role.

I feel we have become devoid of creativity and just rely on slapping in CGI to fill the gap. I can just watch the new Jurassic World trailer and tell its going to be trash and i'm not going to waste my time. Same with almost all new Marvel movies.

Recently one of the creators of Friends said they regretted not having more diversity and I'm sitting here like... "you mean... a token black guy?" I don't understand the unwritten standards the entertainment industry is expected to be held to, like do have diversity but don't make it seem fake or you'll face backlash, wtf are they supposed to do? Maybe targeted channels are a good thing to compensate lol
