For those here with jobs, how many hours out of an 8 hour work day do you think you should be working to take care of everyone else in your country?

Personally I think 2-3 hours of an 8 hour day is reasonable and anything beyond that is excessive.

I don’t agree with taxing overtime. I made 32k in over time last year and about 34k in deductions between taxes and benefits. Stolen hours of my life.

Income tax for example,. you agree to opt into it.

You don't have to pay it if you follow the proper legal procedures. But don't expect anyone to hand hold you through it. It's purposely difficult to opt out.

im at > 35% total in taxes taken out of my paycheck.
im fine with this clip, im not fine with what we get out of it in America. Europeans and Canadians get a much better bang for their tax buck.

voted 1, because there was no zero

the state doesnt need a lot of money for its basic tasks, which is easily possible without taxing individuals at least

aside from that regular people are way more efficient at helping others with their money than the trash government

One, simply because anything beyond that is used very ineffectively by the government.

Also, the ROI on family custodial time over state programs is a much better spend. Yes state spends a lot of money per pupil, but kids success rates blow because the family unit and concept is obscured now. The kids I see succeeding now come from rock bottom and are fighters, or from parent money being used to set family up for success.

The government probably needs to tax about 27.5% of GDP to break even. The vast majority of federal revenue comes from the top 10%, and contributions after the first quintile are minimal. So for most people, only an hour or so a day.

Conflating "helping people" with state laws and necessities is not accurate.

The military can get by on 5%. Charity is voluntary according to the bible.

This, despite being Canadian I think we can do better although we are leaps and bounds ahead of you guys.

My average rate is well into the 30s not including CPP and EI contributions (which ill never use and any OAS in the future is going to be clawed back) and my marginal rate is the highest rate.

I have no issues with this. While I would say its a bit disincentivising knowing every additional dollar I make I lose half It dosen't stop me from putting in the additional time the majority of the time.

With all that said, watching our the Federal and Provincial Government squander away money, miss infrastructure deadlines due to "capacity issues"and just the huge loss due to the amount of red tape we have in place now is concerning.

lets look at whats in the news today. Our deep sea port is now postponed another year because no management plan is in place. How was nothing done for the past four years it was being developed, how is it that only now the year it was supposed to open up, operation costs are just being considered. Capacity issues are cited and yet when you look at the government website there are zero open positions in Economic Development & Transportation's department.
