That's literally the legal reasoning for it, though. To prevent one avenue for laundering money.

I wasn't asking why the sales needed to be reported. The whole gold-buying incident was to give the background on what I am proposing to do.

Do you really think I was asking about why they need to be reported? Did you not see these words, "It's not about the gold anymore"? Can you even read?

This one time, I wanted to buy gold from this place with cash. Much to my surprise, they told me that they would need to report any sales involving cash when it was over a certain amount. I was both surprised and confused. However, I had nobody to ask. I didn't know who made up this law, why he made this law, and there was no way for me to challenge this law or voice my concern or even question it in any way

It's OK that you can't read.

Is this a good or bad thing?

So...does this mean you think my idea is good?

Depends on what you think of Marjorie Taylor Green, I suppose.

Of course the idea is good. As it currently stands, there are so many millions of words of laws and regulations that the odds are you cannot survive a single day without being in violation of at least a handful. The overwhelming majority of them have no reasoning attached, nor do we know who voted to put them into place. The complete lack of transparency in government is antithetical to the ideal of "By the People, For the People" that our system of government was established on.

Baby's first run in with anti money laundering laws.

Money laundering laws are kind of interesting though, aren't they? Who is the government to tell you how you make your money, or what you spend it on? It's yours, you have a right to your own property. If you commit a crime to gain your money, by all means, charge you for that crime. But being put on a list because you're spending money on something perfectly legal to purchase? Reminds me of the prepper that was charged with a federal felony for having too many masks and gloves, and too much water and toilet paper. Didn't matter that they'd been stockpiling that shit for a decade "just in case".

Your post highlights very well why the "Drug War" will never go away. The "Drug War" is the #1 case for why the Federal Government can or should be able to pry into your personal affairs without due process. Yet another product of authoritarians and socialists who hate their neighbors and want any excuse to take all their shit and throw them in a cage. :)

The information you're looking for can be found with a simple Internet search.

This link has several anti-money laundering bills that have been passed by Congress.

Searching the Congressional archives will find bill authors, etc.

As surf pointed out, all the information you could ever want exists and is easy to find. What you're proposing is dumb and unnecessary and not worth a response.

You keep demonstrating to us that you can't read.

Let me say it again so that your tiny little brain doesn't get confused: I am NOT asking about why I needed to report large cash sales. The whole gold incident is merely a lead-in to the idea that I am proposing.

Again, for literally any law 5 minutes of research will give you the history and who proposed it and why.
