Can someone tell me what it is? How is this rules based order and democracy™ measured?

Is it measured by how much gay sex you can have, how many minorities you can fit into a country and how much land can Israel further annex?

Could also be measured by how you are even born, how you got an education, and how free you are to post stupid things.

It took less than 10 replies in this thread for people to start arguing that a republic is not a democracy.

If such a simple and essential thing is a point for debate, education really has failed its purpose.

A republic is not necessarily a democracy. It can be, it doesnt have to be. The representatives of the people are not always chosen by them, they can be lords, heriditary or oligarchs. Modern republics are almost all democracies or at least a pretense of democracy (see somalia), but historically senators weren't always voted upon by the people.

While this is all very interesting, it bears no relevance to the discussion on whether USA is a democracy or not.

Can’t argue against that. Though I’m sure we can agree that that’s not how it should be.

well it does, insofar as the proper description is that america is a constitutional democratic republic, with an independent executive and judiciary.
The republic is the structure of our bureaucracy, democracy is its methodology, its powers centralized in an executive and constrained by the courts and constitution.
