They won this last election because of their own repressive initiatives. Trump would have won an in-person election, and instead voters were strictly quarantined and the mail-in vote went to Biden by an overwhelming margin. It was the greatest voter suppression initiative in the post-Jim Crow era and barely enough to swing the vote in favor of Biden. And it all occurred right out in public, in our faces, not some secret conspiracy. And that was before they had control of the federal government. Now with the executive and house and a split senate, the democrats are free to weaponize the DoJ and other federal agencies to suppress the vote in 2024 even worse. The only limit will be their imagination. If they can use the FBI to raid journalists and lock up political opposition, they'll have no problems finding ways to "win". At least it will be too late for 2022. Probably. That's the best bet, that Republicans recoup enough of congress to mitigate the DoJ abuses in the next 2 years.

We're seeing the limits as to how far gaslighting can take you. They're losing the conversation on crime. They're losing it on immigration. And no matter how many times Psaki lectures Americans as to how they're doing great, people manage their own budgets and decide accordingly.

The fatal flaw to the "long march through the institutions" is how quickly it has eroded institutional trust. Legacy media outlets, universities, and government departments are all increasingly treated with suspicion or outright scorn. They won't win. What's so dangerous is the risk that they burn those institutions down as they go, and everyone should understand the societal need for experts, bureaucracy, and an accountable media.

Locking everyone down, outlawing protests and gatherings (but not enforcing it for their political allies), requiring masks, restricting public transportation, consciously relocating polling sites away from senior care centers, in some areas closing down in-person voting entirely, and of course the overwhelming fearmongering. Yet at the same time, greatly expanding mail-in voting and allowing people to mail-in ballots without witnesses or in states with excuse-only permission.
These measures all favored the democratic party in obvious ways. It suppressed their opposition while maintaining their own voting base. They knew that mail-in voting favored democrats and in-person voting favored republicans, and the result was 71% of votes by mail vs in-person, with the mail/early vote going 58% to Biden and the in-person vote going 65% to Trump.

The election was close enough that we can say pretty handily that without the lockdown measures, Trump would have won.
