could it be that "protection against a tyrannical government" and "we need our guns to secure our freedom™" were just excuses? just obvious bullshit in order to justify opposing any change despite kids getting slaughtered in schools?

the patriot act is another one of the examples where the US government turned "tyrannical" and not a single gun nut did anything about it. in fact, they tend to be the biggest shills for mass surveillance (of brown people that is) and restrictions of freedoms.
