Why should they need to lie about George Floyd?
All they had to do was play to mob prejudice and threats of violence to get a conviction on an inverted burden of proof, where Chauvin had to prove his innocent beyond any possible doubts or be convicted. The prosecution's theories were built "but for the evidence", trying to concoct scenarios that could somehow lead to guilt despite every inconvenience or contrary fact by explaining it away somehow. The autopsy revealed zero signs of potentially lethal physical force used or any evidence whatsoever of asphyxia. All the signs that would be present in an asphyxiation death, weren't. The video at the scene shows Floyd was able to talk and move his head, meaning the force placed on his back couldn't be enough to stop either airflow or bloodflow. So in the absence of evidence of guilt, and in the face of plenty of evidence of innocence, the theory relied upon a goldilocks scenario where Chauvin was able to use a perfect amount of force to impair Floyd's breathing enough to kill him but not enough to have any evidence of it whatsoever.
Its basically like the Russell's teapot as a burden of proof. You can't disprove an unfalsifiable claim. How could Chauvin's defense have shown that he didn't use such a perfect amount of force to choke Floyd out but leave zero evidence? They can't.
And as long as that was all that was needed for a jury of Minneapolis residents to convict him, or more aptly the fact he dressed in blue was all that was needed, then why should they need to lie about it?
We can accept as fact that George Floyd was a violent recidivist felon, that he used fake $20s to try to scam a bodega, that he was high as a kite and erratic. We can accept as fact he downed an entire bag of fentanyl-laced percocets, enough to euthanize a horse, we can accept as fact that he had a lethal amount of fentanyl in his system, polysubstance abuse, a history of near-death overdoses on the exact same drugs, extreme heart disease with a massively oversized heart, 3:1 left ventricular hypertrophy, 90% blocked coronal arteries, we can accept as fact that George Floyd was able to move his head and talk, that there wasn't a single mark of physical trauma due to the restraint, that he exhibited no physical indicators of asphyxia, no petechial hemorrhaging, no subdermal bruising, nothing. We can take that all as fact, need to lie about nothing, and still pretend justice was served, Chauvin was guilty, Floyd was a victim, and not have to tell a single lie
