That's a real nice fantasy land you live in but here in the real world there's very real opposition to nuclear both nationally at locally when you try to actually build nuclear plants.

I'm all for public works in the form of nuclear power plants, but the hurdles are real.

there is also a real opposition to massive wind turbine parks and other environmental impacts of "renewables", there is always an opposition

in germany the green party was against fast internet back in the day

in the end people will accept whatever provides them with electricity and water and the enemies of progress will be forgotten

The opposition to wind turbles is miniscule compared to the opposition to nuclear, on every level. There has never been a chernoble of wind turbines.

If people think water is tight now just imagine when the aquafer dries up. It's going to be really bad.

Welcome to capitalism. If it's more profitable to send products out instead of keep them here that will be done, even at the expense of everybody else.

I think its a prime example of crony capitalism aka bribery. Regulations are passed by the corrupt which allows the exploitation of the people. Why do you think so many council members and politicians are filthy rich? It's not their 401(k) and nice salaries.

The problem has never been the cost of building a desalination plant, it's that desalination is an economical last resort due to the energy intensity.

Once renewables are an overwhelming part of the grid it might be viable, but right now it isn't.

I openly admit I don't know much about their energy cost, but I do know people will die within days of having no water.

in the long run entire landscapes, the local climate can be changed with enough water like in israel

they so have so much water thanks to desalination, they turned wasteland into agriculture, are filling up lakes and rivers and selling some to jordan on top

I remember when I thought nuclear plants pumped nuclear waste into the air, then I did some research and learned that it's the steam as nuclear power is basically super-power-hydro-electric. The reactions create so much heat that water is used to A: Not go into meltdown and B: funnel that evaporating water through turbines released as steam. I haven't looked into it for a while but I believe that's the gist of it.

Yup! Renewable is good. Not great, good. I also saw a story about how there's nations in Africa who have been extending a forest line to prevent the Sahara from spreading which also will yield cooler temperatures and increase water formation. I listen to a podcast about home building and one talking point was that removing all the "green lawns" actually raises the temperature of the surrounding area, thus reducing the water through evaporation. Foliage doesn't just need water, it produces it through environmental interactions.

Everyone's being so civil

Cliffnotes:

Agriculture uses 80% of California's water.
Agriculture is 2% of the California GDP.
Top billionaires export their agriculture out of the state/country (Saudi Arabia just got Water Rights to export Alfalfa, a highly water-intensive crop, it's illegal in their country because it uses so much).
Your water will be limited as a resident based on even/odd address system.
Citizens use 6% of the water supply.

There ya go, now you know how to vote later. Clean em out!

Yep, clean out the Republicans of the Central Valley who protect the livestock farmers who use all the water.

Clean out anyone who's goal is to get rich and screw society over. I agree with this! As a mostly conservative, I don't like a lot of Republicans. It sucks we have the lesser of 2 evils to choose from. Corrupt is corrupt, my loyalty doesn't supercede my morals and ethics. So if true, yup, I'm 100% on your side. I'm more concerned with almond farmers who use 10% of the states water, but hey man if you're right you're right. I'll do some research, I don't like being ignorant about the world.
