1. Reality exists and perfect candidates don't exist so working within the confines of the system. Sucks but currently its the lesser of 2 evils. You think Democrats and Republicans are bad? You should see California school board committees. They screw kids from both sides and take bribes galore for no-bid contracts with large construction companies who buy them cars, trips, large sums of cash for campaigns. That happens all over at a local level regardless of party. Its worth mentioning that Democrats tend to throw money and feelings at problems and tend to live in a hypothetical world (i.e. Sure sounds good on paper, won't work). Gets annoying so by default, and by a lot of common ground, end up conservative and preferring my side to win as the overall benefit is greater than any Democrat. Even with a non-preferred candidate. Its easier to fight to clean your side up than it is to get the other side to clean up.
2. We all rely on the news for the news. Some stories are clearly designed to illicit a response. Large media makes money when we argue and refresh page after page giving click after click. The news is also extremely biased nearly everywhere. Don't say gay for example. Depending on the news you watch, Florida hates gay people and wants gays out of school. The actual bill says teachers cannot engage in teaching sex-ed and sex-related materials with 4-7 year olds, which by any human standard, is normal. You know, when they should be learning shapes and the alphabet and basic math. So the news lies. Not wanting lies to go unchecked is a thing. We let food get away with not being food for too long (now with REAL cheese!), information is going the same way.
Bonus 3: The big difference right now is liberals want to control YOUR life, conservatives want to be LEFT ALONE. Liberals have lost any sense of balance and are purely extremists who attack through social media with hatred and animosity while claiming to support, I dunno, every possible victim ever? Chinese call them

The old school hyper-sensitive conservatives are being replaced by modern ones (Trump) which is a good thing, parties need cleaned periodically. The left has just dug in deeper acting like a wild cornered animal. Unpleasable humans that will destroy everything for ego.
