Except it's not a prison sentence. It's medical treatment. Some of them need treatment till they are reasonably healthy and no longer present a risk to the public, at which point they are released. Some of them can be placed on extended leave, which means they can live in the community, provided that they take their psych meds. Neither of these involve locking them up for life.
