There's really no reason to go centrist on this pick. The Republicans have no leverage.

No reason except decades of precedent, the spirit and purpose of the court etc

So obviously he'll be replaced by a dirty lib. How centrist of a lib are they going to settle for? Will Sinema and Manchin throw some weight around to get some additional attention throw their way.

How much focus will there be on identity politics? I would not be surprised if a black women is nominated and then of course the conservative media will bitch about it.

Hello!

If we're being fair here, the replacement is only simply going to preserve the status quo, which has been highly ineffective for the Biden administration's interests.

The current justice Breyer (whom I believe was appointed during the Clinton administration) is already far-left leaning and wouldn't have ever voted in favor of non-leftist causes anyway.

Nothing will really change here -- he retired for a reason. He didn't want to risk being forced to retire for health reasons under a Conservative administration that would replace him with a Conservative.

Better than his usual content, where he just says something blatantly incorrect and refuses to even read when you prove him wrong beyond any reasonable doubt.

Are lefties threatening Justice Bryer and acting like the world is ending for him daring to retire like they did with Justice Kennedy?

Probably not -- if we are being fair here, this is all about Roe V. Wade and nothing else.

Imagine thinking it's normal to introduce to society a culture of promiscuity to be followed every Thursday-Sunday and then promote abortion as a primary birth control method because Planned Parenthood profits egregiously from it (with no regard to the actual life lost / life-long emotional trauma the patient may experience / a PP funded "science" sector that spends every waking moment trying to debunk the value of that life so profits can increase).

This is supported by a good number of people on the US Supreme Court and pretty much everyone on the left individually. Once that sinks in..... everything else becomes quite clear.

Maybe Biden could take this as an opportunity to actually appoint a liberal who votes by conscience and reason and isn't just a rubber stamp for the democrats on everything. Someone who will buck the party philosophy when its not in line with the judicial philosophy.
well fat chance, we'll just get another kagan / sotomayor

i just have to admit, i'm in awe of what a brazen hypocrite you are, not displaying a single sign of shame, remorse, or irony after making such a statement. it has to be your superpower.

same with all the right wing idiots who supported trump and now think they had any right to talk about biden's behaviour, competence, or mental state. guess it's just really easy to be that shameless when you never reflect on your own behaviour, probably just a sign of true stupidity...
