Well, the ones who behave the way you are describing don't speak for the entire LGBT community. That was the point I really wanted to drive home.
They get the most attention because it generates media ratings.
I've spent time with time with many-a-person who was part of that community in some way....... They never made me feel uncomfortable or unwelcomed and they also didn't make any advances they knew wouldn't be welcomed (in fact, in my younger years, once they knew I was interested in women and treated them with respect, they made it a priority to try and open the floor for me to talk to any
single woman present at the place that I wanted to for the entire evening -- totally willing to be the wing-man).
I think what the disconnect we see as a society here is that someone being part of the LGBT community does not automatically mean they have mental health issues. Our brains and wiring are complex and they have their own preferences. There's nothing wrong with that and we need to stop blurring that line between normal people (regardless of lifestyle choice) and those the media glorify that truly need mental health counseling.
