It got labelled a variant of concern like the last however many that got a letter designation. The letters that aren't alpha, beta or delta didn't amount to much but scientists are concerned by the number of mutations in omicron. This might also amount to nothing but given the amount of mutations on the spike protein people are rightfully concerned this might avoid vaccine resistance due to the number of structural changes.
