The best basketball or soccer players, the fastest runners, highest jumpers, quickest swimmers and so will always be men. Could women sports be bigger than they are today? Sure. Will they ever come anywhere near the popularity of the respective men? Singular exceptions might exist, but generally speaking, the answer is no.

I'm saying we value sports where men are better because of structural disadvantage.

Women are better at ultramarathon, rock climbing, shooting, anything equestrian, etc. etc.

There's plenty of places where women are better, we just don't value them.

Women aren't better at equestrian, they're on par with men because its a sport which doesn't actually depend on the athletic ability of the rider. Which is also why equestrian is one of the rare sports where people can be competitive until well into their 50s.

Okay, so data suggests that women on average outpace men by 0.6% in races longer than 195 miles. A miniscule advantage in an extremely niche sport, and even this advantage might be based on self-selection bias:

For sure man. I watch the NBA more than any other sport, so I follow a lot of basketball-related pages on Instagram, for example, & I see this ALL the time lol. Like the NBA TNT page will post 10x nba-related posts, then all of a sudden they post about the WNBA.

Something positive like, “check out the semi-finals matchup tonight when so-&-so plays so-&-so!

99% of the comments are things like;

It’s the WNBA playoffs ? I had literally no idea
I would rather watch my dog take a shit

Or, check what’s-her-names moves last night in the post!

The NBA “stars” do the same thing. They’ll post about it on social media, take pictures at a WNBA game

& nobody gives a single fuck, it’s brutal lol

two of the three examples you gave are false.

Though men have less advantage over women in rock climbing than, say, football, men still outperform women at the top

Shooting, i don't know for sure, but i'd say no advantages other than interest, which makes more men in this sport than women, by far, and with men being the majority of the sport, i'd say best of all time, or best alive are probably all men.

Ultramarathon I believe, but again, not by much. best example of the 3 you gave.

women's volleyball, however, looks reasonably competent and skillful. obviously still significantly slower and less powerful than men's volleyball, but it's somewhat watchable.

i can think of a couple reasons why volleyball is watchable, but I won't go there

men still outperform in volleyball, but i'd say less so than other sports for sure

ofc, i already stated that women are slower and less powerful, they also have lower nets. i'm just saying that unlike women's football, it still looks skillful and competent.

But yeah, I gotta agree with fender: women's volleyball is at least watchable. Can't say the same about basketball or soccer. Tennis is a fringe case if the players aren't cute.
