medical debts is as compelling of an argument to me as the lack of care given in areas considered elective. and in classic american style we'd fail HARD at finding a compromise. its gonna be either tax the rich free healthcare that leads to a lack of healthcare for many people that may have gotten it (along with some debt) in the old system, or it's going to be a less than free system that still lumps people with debt.

my lack of interest in major changes to the system are more based in my lack of trust to do it right than what i think about 1st world global healthcare systems.

People see "America cures 90% of X cancer and UK cures 40%" and think we are better, but in reality we just treated a bunch of people who wouldn't have needed it and claimed it was cured. Not intentionally ofc, just a quirk of our shitty system

Honestly, just the fact that it's super common that the elderly lose their homes to medical bills instead of passing them on to build generational wealth is a good argument to modernize our healthcare system.
