Unfortunetly smaller rural ares use FB as a means for news and communications.
All town announcements are made via a news group, panned power outages, public notices etc. As a result these towns are fairly dependent on it now, although other platforms exist they are not used.
Makes it difficult to delete it when that's the only source for ongoings by the municipality, and corporations within the municipality.
It's also the primary market place in small towns since there's no kijij or craigslist.
I think it's kind of strange that these small towns would use a non-official, commercial site like facebook to communicate with their residents. Don't they have their own websites, where they can make public announcements? And they can even put a section on their official site where people can advertise, trade for stuff, look for apartments...etc.
