Tricky situation. i don't think anybody disagrees about the absolute horror that the slaves went through but whether or not the same government that abolished the slavery is now also responsbile to their ancestors ancestors i find that argument a bit hard to believe. But maybe someone here can educate me
I dont think this was horrific at all. Id argue it was already greatly in their self interest to be in America, receiving free food, shelter, clothing, medical care and education for the children. People who would have lived in miserable circumstances in their home continent instead got all the benefits america had to offer. And I think its fair to say many whos ancestors were captured this way were actually
trying to get captured and gain not just those benefits but ensure their children would be American citizens by birthright. And personally, I think they should be sent back, and a sensible society would end that birthright citizenship immediately, though tackling historic abuse is tougher.
In terms of reparations, Id say these families
