the difference is: rome was so far more advanced than everyone else that after its destruction it took a thousand years plus to get back to that level

rome was built from scratch with very little means in the beginning

america is some poor europeans accidentally stumbling over a vast and almost empty continent with massive resources and an extremely favorable geopraphic location
