I think we can all agree that Clinton is the main culprit in regards to American-Chinese relations. Trump's heart was in the right place but he made some insanely stupid mistakes such as getting rid of the TPP.

The reality is that we can't do this alone. We need strong diplomatic relations to convince our allies to enact our will.

i still dont get your hard on for this. some fake control over the South China sea was gonna make the difference in a tech-grab battle?

the rest i agree with
our allies cannot be convinced they already threw in the towel

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the main issue. He had a chance to arm Chiang Kai Shek, who would have slaughtered the Chinese communists, but he didn't, probably because he had a hard on for communists sympathizers.

Nixon made a mistake by opening trade with China as well. China would have been better as a bunch of poor shit farmers.

Everything else subsequent is somewhat minor by comparison. Although Hunter Biden receiving diamonds from Chinese diplomats is somewhat worrying...

China is a high civilization going back thousands of years. With the exception of the period from 1800 to c. 1985, China has been one of the most advanced civilizations on the planet throughout pretty much all of human history.
To think that a country of this size, with such a large population and this cultural background, would have stayed piss poor farmers is dumb.

Also, we would all have been in for a decade of hurt if China hadn't single-handedly pulled the world economy out of the Great Recession.

I see many of our free market friends are embracing communism

It is communism when the government does things right?

If you disable your adblocker you can watch this 13 minute clip from 60 minutes on the semiconductor shortage, and the transcript is in the link if you would prefer to read.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/semiconductor-chip-shortage-60-minutes-2021-08-29/

What are your thoughts on the US subsidizing the semiconductor industry to help compete in the market place? I think its a good idea but am unsure in the political climate how this can be accomplished, let alone keep companies like Intel from siphoning this money to shareholders as Lesley mentions.

stop putting microchips in vaccines, semiconductors will be available again.
