How modern was the military equipment and small arms left behind in Iraq and turned over to ISIS?

I'm not going to be upset over modern small arms.

Now the encrypted comms hardware? That's inexcusable.

False flag to force us to send a troop surge. Obvious.

It’s good that the actual war hawk GOP wants to re escalate and send more troops again. We have come full circle two months ago it’s was swamp demon politician only that created this country building. Insert FOX news and viewers war cry

No, the vehicles left behind are anything but modern. The blackhawk helicopters everyone is bitching about? Well, they famously shot one down over Mogadishu in 1991, 30 years ago.

How about the F-15's and encrypted electronics? The Chinese have some of the best hackers in the world.

These people died doing what they loved and we should honor their sacrifice. Still, I think this is a really small price to pay for getting 100k new Democrat voters.

No F15s (1970s tech, FWIW) were left behind. I'm already on record in this forum, more than once really, describing the failure to secure encrypted comms gear as inexcusable. But also keep in mind that it was expected to be used by the Afghan army against the Taliban.

After all of this, every hawk that tries to speak and argue for another intervention or war needs to be backhanded and told to shut the fuck up at the very minimum.

Afghanistan- thousands of American troops dead, over a trillion spent, complete failure. Look at what's happening.

Libya- complete failed state, civil war raging on for years to this day, thousands of African migrants streaming into Europe because of it

Syria- our attempt to depose of Assad? complete failure. We literally sent care packages to moderate 'rebels', just kidding terrorists, and saw our arms in the hand of al-nusra and co.

Iraq- probably best case of all, still a ton of casualties, ton of money spent and for what? To have a government that's Shiite controlled and basically an ally in the region to Iran- our number one enemy in the region.

They don't even have to be modern. What happens when militias get a critical mass of small arms and military equipment? That's how ISIS was created in the first place. They didn't have the blackhawks and A-29's we left here, let alone apaches or A-10's. There was a power vacuum across Iraq and Syria and a militia equipped with all the small arms and armor we left behind, and that's all it took to create one of the worst geopolitical crisises of the mideast, which is saying something.
We gave the Afghans enough military equipment and funding to create a modernized army. What purpose will that be put towards?

Its a foreseeable bite in the ass down the line. We armed the Taliban to fight the soviets, and how did that turn out?

Biden couldn't even stop suicide bombers, what a loser. What did everybody expect? A farewell military parade from the Taliban? Its a messy end to a scuffed pull out negotiated by your God Emperor, also you don't need to pretend you care about soldiers or Afghan army equipment.

Dont you need like mechanics, a supply of spare parts and pilots to operate the apaches , warthogs etc? I mean it's not ideal but equipment is, how would you put it... a Nothingburger.

the point is we left behind less complex, less formidable weaponry and armor in iraq and it was enough to empower ISIS to cruise through the border and crush all opposition, liberate prisons, slaughter opposing tribes and establish a caliphate the size of new york state.
now what will happen to those small arms and vehicles left behind in Afghanistan? The last time we armed the Taliban, it came back to bite us in the ass.
