It stems from an eye for an eye. If you kill someone, your punishment is you being killed. If you rape someone, your punishment is you being raped. Going to prison is basically you being raped so the punishment fits.

Someone rapes a child they deserve to be punished. We as society shouldn't stoop down and make rape an acceptable punishment just because someone's a rapist. Some crimes are heinous enough that we shouldn't and can't ever replicate or use as retribution. Rape's one of them. Would be pretty fucked up if society somehow agreed that someone getting raped, even as punishment is acceptable.

with rape it's a bit different since some cases of rape convictions are not really rape. but yes, rapists that are truly rapists deserve the worst.

My view is that rape is objectively wrong. If you think something is objectively wrong then you can't justify it's use in some heinous examples. In your case it's no longer objectively wrong but relative to the situation. You're basically saying in certain cases it's okay to rape.
