I just hired a pipette stooge. Nah, that's not nice. She's gonna be great. 40+ years old and wants to work with us until she retires. She was a middle school teacher for a while and now wants to do science.
Being a lab manager is great most of the time, but recently we've been expanding the lab so more and more of my time is spent on administrative tasks to keep the lab functioning. Ordering, budgeting, etc. It's a lot easier than science and I have more energy when I get home, but it's not nearly as fulfilling.
and by "recently" I mean last 3 weeks. Honestly it's probably a good break, since I"m going to have an 80 mouse experiment in a few months. It's going to be total ass.
