People like Ron Paul probably voted against it because of pork inside. Its probably still a great bill even with the pork.

The intellectual property protections need to be held like a sword over China's neck.

While it has a noble cause, i doubt the tax payers will get very much of its intended good out of this bill. We’ll see though.

Senate Democrats are much more serious about nation security issues than House Democrats. It's very hard to win a state-wide election as a radical.

That's just generally how the senate and house works. Senate is the "cooling chamber", and House is where the whims of the people lead to batshit crazy ideas.

Would the Senate still be able to satisfy this role without the filibuster? With the country being closely divided between the two partisan camps, we can expect to see control of the Senate switch hands every other election cycle.

Yes. We have the presidency and the house that still need to be involved to pass things, and there's no need to totaly remove the filibuster. We could just make it harder to carry out, for instance by making it a standing filibuster again.

Also Senators are still elected every 6 years, so they have more time to make an impact to justify their position, unlike the house which only has 2 years to justify their continued positon.
